Construction Elevator Coming Down

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

picture029.jpg

A sharp-eyed resident pointed out to us last night that the construction elevator at 110 is being dismantled from the top floors down. This is the latest sign of major progress and suggests that all the building materials have been delivered to their respective floors.

We wish the workers well in their finishing of the interiors of apartments, and look forward to the home stretch of construction. Thanks to a tipster for the pic.

Livingston Corridor, Phoenix of Brooklyn, Taking Off

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

110 is soon to have lots of company along Livingston Street: the Daily Eagle has a feature on all the development taking place on and near Livingston Street, an area it says is “rising from the ashes.” The article sums it up nicely, “what was once a largely ho-hum part of town is beginning to hum with people living there.”

4,500 new people are slated to move to the neighborhood, with all the development going on. To list just a few we’ve followed: new condos going up at 200 Livingston (right), renovated office space at 177 Livingston, dock your MBA over a 99 cent store at 27 Smith, and a building called 110 Livingston, which the article dubs “the most well known” of this mass of development. The articles says even Two Trees was surprised by the interest in 110.

Don’t forget the Smith, 14 Townhouses, Schermerhorn Court, Schermerhorn Houses, Lookout Hill, and more on our development map–whew. Add all this to the nearby renovations to the Fulton Mall, the Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway, and we’re looking at some serious change. Next up: broker-talk that “LiCo” is the new DUMBO.

Kayak New York

Monday, June 4th, 2007

manhattan-kayakers.jpg

NewYorkology has a cool feature today on the options around the city for kayaking. The city is building a dozen more launches to make it easier to get out on the water. One dock that caught our eye–if you don’t want to ferry out to Governors Island there is a kayak dock open on weekends. We’ve never been that close to the Hudson or harbor water, but it would surely come with some stunning city views. Check out the Downtown Boathouse for more info.

Governor’s Island proposed beach plan

What to do with the 170-acre oasis just off Brooklyn in the middle of New York Harbor? This summer the responsible agency is displaying five designs which have been proposed for parkland on the island and seeking public input on the designs.

The exhibit, called “The Park at the Center of the World,” opens this weekend, and according to the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation you can make your voice heard in three ways:

  • At the two locations that the designs are exhibited – at the Center for Architecture in Manhattan, and on Governors Island itself (directions to the island)
  • Submit feedback directly through Governors Island’s website, www.govisland.com
  • At a public forum on June 20th at 6:30 PM at Reeves Great Hall at FIT (28th Street and 7th Avenue) where the design teams will present their concepts and receive feedback from the public

We like the look of that beach! More info from the links below, or click through for more renderings.
