Governor’s Island proposed beach plan

What to do with the 170-acre oasis just off Brooklyn in the middle of New York Harbor? This summer the responsible agency is displaying five designs which have been proposed for parkland on the island and seeking public input on the designs.

The exhibit, called “The Park at the Center of the World,” opens this weekend, and according to the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation you can make your voice heard in three ways:

  • At the two locations that the designs are exhibited – at the Center for Architecture in Manhattan, and on Governors Island itself (directions to the island)
  • Submit feedback directly through Governors Island’s website, www.govisland.com
  • At a public forum on June 20th at 6:30 PM at Reeves Great Hall at FIT (28th Street and 7th Avenue) where the design teams will present their concepts and receive feedback from the public

We like the look of that beach! More info from the links below, or click through for more renderings.
