Governor’s Island To Open for Visits This Summer
From NewYorkology:
Not only will access to the island remain free this summer, but more of it will be open to the public and for more days, according to the schedule released Monday by the Governors Island Preservation and Education Corporation.
We think the photo says it all.
Update: New York Mag has a feature on a concept for futuristic farming on the island.

I saw this “vertical farming” concept on an architecture blog several weeks ago. It will be nearly useless for growing plants, let alone food crops.
Unless they’re planning to rotate the entire building, it will not “allow maximum light into the center”. Anyone who looks at how plants grow in a greenhouse can see this. The plants will lean toward the south side of the building, pressing themselves against the glass, to maximize the light they get. This design is even worse, since upper floors shade the lower floors.
This is an architecture student project, and it shows.
