Mortgage Rates Steady, Inching Down

Monday, April 30th, 2007

This recent drip from the firehose of news on mortgage rates is relevant to anyone still waiting to lock in: Freddie Mac reports that for two weeks straight the 30-year rates have slipped. This week, it was tiny drop of a hundreth of a point to 6.16. At least they’re not rising. Another good point: a year ago the rate was 6.58.

For the meta-linkage file: Curbed and Brownstoner have taken a shine to us today. Brownstoner is reporting that the building is 85% sold–sounds about right–and Curbed is hopping on the 110 Livingston movie bandwagon. What makes us so fun to love (or hate, for that matter)? As one Brownstoner commenter puts it, “Good location, great architectural pedigree.” The conviction of the converted…

110 Livingston–the Movie

It’s a rainy day out so pull up a chair, get some popcorn, and fasten your seatbelt. The rumors are true–we just noticed on 110livingston.com that they’ve gone and posted a promotional movie of testimonials about the building and neighborhood.

It’s just like one of those PBS documentaries on the Civil War or New York City, with nice panning shots and such, except, um, kind of on fast forward. Enough talk, see for yourself:

The View from Here: the Brooklyn Quaker Meeting House

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

This is the first in an occasional series of posts on buildings and features visible from 110 Livingston. If you have a suggestion for a feature, let us know.

.Brooklyn Quaker Meeting House

At the corner of Schermerhorn and Boerum Place sits a modest yet oddly imposing brick structure. If you thought this building looked old, well, it was built four years before Lincoln was president, in 1857–so it’s probably the only pre-war building along Boerum Place (pre-Civil War, that is). For the last 150 years it has housed various incarnations of the Brooklyn Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends (i.e., the Quakers), who have outlasted quite a bit of change in the surrounding neighborhood.

The meeting house is the place for the society’s gatherings, and also houses a Sunday school for kids aged 4-12. The society also founded the Brooklyn Friends School, housed at 375 Pearl St., in 1867.

The Architectural Guidebook to Brooklyn describes the building as having “that beguiling simplicity expressive of the still, small inner voice that we know from the Quaker tradition.”

110 Sales Office Movin’ on Up

You won’t find the 110 Livingston sales office on Boerum Place anymore–it has moved around the corner to the main entrance on Livingston Street, and up to the 9th floor. We’ll miss the shabby-chic entrance to the old office, but the main lobby is restored and looking fantastic, and the spacious 3-bedroom has good light and views, and a nice long kitchen counter.
